University of Toronto Mastercard Scholarship
The University of Toronto (U of T), Canada’s preeminent center for learning, research, and knowledge production, offers fully financed graduate scholarships through the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program.

Potential Mastercard Foundation Scholars will expand their networks and abilities to participate in a range of healthcare ecosystems and professions in Africa.
It is anticipated that Mastercard Foundation Scholars will return home after completing the program and work for themselves or in a variety of health-related occupations to improve health outcomes in their nations.
Scholarship Benefits
Scholars in the University of Toronto’s Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program receive complete financial aid during their graduate studies.
This covers tuition, lodging, food, health insurance, a laptop, educational materials, and other costs associated with travelling to Canada, including passport and visa application fees.
Graduate Programs
The following graduate programs will receive up to 25 Mastercard Foundation scholarships for the 2025–2026 academic year:
- Health Administration Master’s degree
- Environmental and Occupational Health Master’s degree
- Social and Behavioral Health Sciences Master’s degree
- Financial Insurance Master’s degree
- Biomedical Master of Engineering
- Master of Biotechnology (beginning in 2026)

Eligibility Requirements
Candidates will be eligible for the scholarship if:
- They are citizens of a nation in Sub-Saharan Africa and now reside there.
- They have not yet begun graduate-level coursework and will be graduating or have graduated within the last five years from one of the Africa Health Collaborative’s member institutions (mentioned on page one).
- They exhibit good leadership and studentship qualities during their undergraduate years.
- They are qualified to enrol in one of the above-mentioned supported graduate programs.
- They will return home after graduation to support Africa’s continued social and economic advancement.
Application Procedure
Step One:
- Prospective students must first review the prerequisites for admission to the practice of study they have selected. You can explore these various programs with the help of the links above. Please go to step two if you fulfill the academic criteria of your desired program.
Step Two:
- Complete the Mastercard Foundation Scholarship application and register for a scholarship information session. The full application and all necessary attachments must be received at noon on Monday, November 4, 2024 (Toronto time).
- You will receive an email to proceed to step three if your Mastercard Foundation scholarship application is accepted by the Scholarship Admission Committee and satisfies all requirements. Successful applicants will receive these messages in the first part of December.
Step Three:
- Start your graduate application on the University of Toronto, School of Graduate Studies website for the department or program of your choice.
- Graduate applications at the institution are centralized under the School of Graduate Studies (SGS).
- The particular criteria of each department and program area will be communicated to you, along with the next dates for submitting more material.
- You must upload papers to your application as part of this online process.
